Admission to the College

Students must be admitted to the College of St. Catherine and complete introductory courses before they can petition for admission to the Education Department. Contact the following:

Admission to the Education Department

Students must be formally admitted to the Education Department before they can take EDUC 3000 level courses. The Admissions and Retention Committee meets twice during the academic school year.

Petition deadlines are as follows (no exceptions):
  • October 15 - Day Program
  • May 1 - Weekend Program
If the deadline falls on a Saturday or Sunday, petition packets are due no later then 3 p.m. the preceding Friday.

Formal Admission to the Education Department for Undergraduate and Second Major Certificate Students.
To be eligible for consideration for admission to the Teacher Education LiProgram (all areas of licensure including Elementary, Secondary and K-12), the candidate must:
  • have earned a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 after 60 hours of course work (undergraduate students), or have earned a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 (Second Major Certificate students. Please note, any candidate who has earned a BA/BS or higher degree with a GPA of less than 2.5 must earn a minimum GPA of 3.0 after taking at least 12 semester credits at the College of St. Catherine AND must have a recommendation from a faculty member in the major department.);
  • have completed with a grade of C- or better in PSYC 1001 General Psychology, PSYC 2025 Lifespan Developmental Psychology, EDUC 2070 Teachers as Leaders for a Changing Society, EDUC 2080 General Methods: Elementary or EDUC 2090 General Methods: K-12, Secondary and MATH 2500 Mathematical Structures (elementary only);
  • have taken the PRAXIS I (PPST) [Institutional Test Score Reports must be on file in the Education Office prior to the admission deadline.];
  • have submitted two recommendations (one from the academic advisor and another from a CSC faculty member); and
  • have applied to the Education Department by completing and submitting the Petition to Major Form.
