EXERCISE AND SPORT SCIENCE DEPARTMENT
The Exercise and Sport Science Department offers professional programs of study and an instructional activity program. Students interested in teaching grades K-12 major in physical education must take the necessary course work for licensure in the Department of Education. Students with career objectives other than teaching can major in exercise and sport science and minor in an area of special interest, such as business, psychology, biology or other areas, to prepare for a variety of nonteaching careers and/or graduate school.
Students desiring an in-depth concentration in exercise science and nutrition take the combination major: exercise science and nutrition. This major may also serve as a preparation for graduate school and health-science careers.
Students desiring physical therapy take the exercise science/pre physical therapy dual degree program, which includes the courses and information in the Pre-professional Program section of the undergraduate academic catalogue, plus the exercise and sport science courses in the dual degree program.
The Exercise and Sport Science Department offers two minors. The first is an exercise and sport science minor for students who want a greater understanding of physiological and biomechanical principles of exercise. The second is a coaching minor for studnets interested in coaching in school or community programs.
Major and minor programs of study are available in the Day Program. Instructional activity classes and the Health, Fitness, Lifestyle Issues are available in the Day Program, Weekend College and summer sessions.
All majors in the Exercise and Sport Science Department can be obtained with either the B.A. or B.S. degree.
