THE FRENCH PLACEMENT EXAM

The French Placement Exam is an assessment designed to measure the French language skills background of all incoming students. This exam has one goal: to assist in the proper placement of students into one of the first 4 semesters of college-level language study at the College of St. Catherine. All incoming 1st year, transfer and returning students are required to take the placement exam before registering for language classes. The exam gives a realistic and accurate result of what students can expect to know or learn in college-level classes.

    *The test takes 20-40 minutes.

*Test results are available on-line immediately (within ten minutes of taking the exam) both to students and language faculty.

*The test results indicate clearly which appropriate level students should register for, including 1st (111), 2nd (112), 3rd (211) and 4th (212) semester language level. Scores higher than 4th semester should register for FR220 or FR305W. See Curriculum for course choices.
