Deaf Mentor Training

Instructional Program & Activities

  • Deaf Mentors will receive training designed to maximize the experience of language mentoring, through application of mentoring skills.
  • June 20-21st: Mentors will attend classes on a mentoring skill topic, including using technology, writing educational objectives and setting up a mentoring business.
  • June 22nd—June 26th: Mentors will work with ASL Immersion participants. Activities include observing ASL classes, afternoon field trips and other outside-the-classroom learning activities designed to put mentoring into action. Some evening activities offer more opportunities to socialize and have fun while learning.

Cost
The cost of dorms and meals is $300.

If you live in the CATIE states: IA, IL, IN, KS, MI, MN, MO, NE, OH, WI, you qualify for discounted registration of $25.

If you live in the MARIE states: AR, CO, LA, MT, NM, ND, OK, SD, TX, UT, WY, contact Nikki Wentz at ndwentz@ualr.edu before registering. They are offering sponsorships to qualified applicants from those states.

If you are from another state not listed here, contact the CATIE Center catiecenter@stkate.edu. We may be able to find sponsorship for your registration fee!

Housing
The dorm is included in the registration fee. Please make sure you mark all the nights you will be staying in the dorm. We are charged for all nights reserved, so please help us save money by only checking the nights you will be staying in the dorm!     

Meals
Lunch and breakfast will be provided each day in the St. Catherine University cafeteria. Other meals during the week are on your own. There are a number of restaurants and grocery stores within four to six blocks of the campus.

Cancellation Policy
Cancellations must be in writing (via fax or email) and must be confirmed by the CATIE Center. Cancellations received by May 15th will receive a full refund.
CATIE region participants: Cancellations after May 15th will not be refunded.
Other participants: Cancellations after May 15th will receive a refund of $275 until May 30. After May 30th, no refunds.
