Provide your feedback on the needs of interpreter educators and interpreters in your state!

Saturday April 26th: Interpreter Educators Workshop with Dr. Betsy Winston

  • IEP Challenges: Cohesive Curriculum and Qualified Faculty. Discuss the challenges of offering quality interpreter education bases on cohesive curricula taught by qualified faculty. Participants will share concerns, challenges they have faced and questions they have regarding faculty qualifications (both adjunct and full-time) and teaching loads. The impact of these issues on the ability to offer a cohesive, comprehensive curriculum will be explored.
  • Comprehensive and Cohesive Curriculum. Participants will briefly review the content of their own IEP curricula in light of the CIT National Education Standards. Examples will be offered of teaching approaches and strategies that tie learning experiences together. Participants will also be asked to share their own solutions to curricula cohesion.
  • Faculty Qualifications and Assessment. Participants will be asked to informally assess their own (and their faculty’s) level of mastery of the Domains and Competencies for Teaching Interpreting, and engage in discussion about how they demonstrate that mastery. The National Interpreter Education Center’s initiative for portfolio review will be introduced, and participants will have the opportunity to provide feedback.

Who can attend? Interpreter Education Program directors and faculty from the ten-state CATIE region - Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio and Wisconsin.
