NIC Intensive: Hands on Preparation May 2-4, 2008 with Julie Simon
This intensive hands-on program will provide simulated testing situations to dispel anxiety and fears surrounding the NIC examination. One-to-one feedback and suggestions for specific skill improvement will also be a key part of this program.
Registrants will receive a confirmation letter with a participant profile that they must complete and return by April 28th.

NIC Interview Prep
September 15, 2007 with Joe Lucas
This first seminar in our DHHS-funded series for NIC certification preparation guides participants through an in-depth exploration of the interview portion of the NIC exam.
Activities included discussing the rubric that the raters use, viewing the NIC practice DVD to become familiar with the format of the test and engaging in hands-on small group practice to develop responses to several ethical scenarios.

NIC Review: Preparing for Examination

This workshop will guide participants through an analysis of the new certification testing paradigm, offer opportunities for practice and prepare them for the next step of taking the test.
- Review what constitutes a successful approach to the interview and performance portions of the exam.
- Formulate, rehearse and model appropriate ethical decision-making responses for the interview.
- Analyze the differences in discourse patterns of ASL and English and discuss how these differences are mediated to create an equivalent message in the target language.
- Formulate, rehearse and model language options for expressive and receptive work using the mock scenarios on the NIC Practice DVD.
Priority registration for participants who attended previous workshops in this series.
