The mission and purpose of the Department of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy is to provide an excellent education in occupational science and occupational therapy, conduct scholarly inquiry on human occupation, and serve the broader community by promoting occupational health and well-being. We prepare individuals to value humans as occupational beings, understand the development of occupational competence, apply ethical, spiritual and social justice principles, engage in a healthy balance of life occupations, and lead the advancement of occupational science and occupational therapy.

"The marvelous liberal arts education and excellent client-centered or people-centered approach we were taught has given me the confidence, the curiosity,
and the flexibility to “read” the changing times, and figure out how I can serve individuals from a holistic perspective that is driven by the client’s choice. Doing
the right thing to help people realize their goals is the stability in the face of challenge. With patience, creativity and persistence, a way can always be found
as long as we see what needs to be done. This is what St. Kate’s prepared me for and I am forever grateful for this legacy. I am constantly amazed at what
paths it leads me down as I seek my vision of how I can contribute in this society, in this world, and in one small lifetime."
