Antonian Scholars Honors Program

St. Catherine University

Admission to the Program

Eligibility: Any student who has completed at least three courses at CSC but no more than fifteen courses while enrolled at CSC may apply for the program.

Process of Admission

  1. A student submits her application and asks a faculty member to recommend her by completing a recommendation form, or a faculty member recommends her and asks the student to apply.

  2. The Honors Program Committee reads applications and recommendations; this committee chooses the Honors Program students.

  3. Twenty students will be admitted to the program as first-year students. An additional ten students may be added in their second year if they meet the eligibility and admission criteria. The provision for the additional ten allows for dropouts and for students who were not interested in the program, not aware of it, or not eligible during their first year.

Admission determined by: student interest as reflected in her application, faculty recommendation, 3.5 GPA (or where below this figure, contingent upon attaining this GPA at the end of the semester of application).

To maintain eligibility, a student must be registered in the Honors Program each year, unless she is away from campus, e.g., abroad. A student must complete at least one Honors Seminar within the first two semesters after being admitted to the Program. If she is not registered for a seminar at the beginning of the third semester after admission, she will be sent a letter indicating that she must submit and complete an Honors Contract that semester AND submit a Program Planning Sheet* if one is not on file. Otherwise, she will be dropped from the roster.

If one of her first two semesters after admission involves foreign study, she will have one additional semester to complete a Seminar.

She may complete at most three components in her senior year, one of which is the Senior Project. She must earn in the honors courses a grade of B– or higher. Beginning with the Winter 2000 honors seminars, Honors Program students who do not receive a grade of B– or better in an Honors Seminar will automatically be dropped from the Honors Program. Honors Seminars may not be taken S/U for honors program credit. If a student does take a seminar with S/U option she will be dropped from the Honors Program. In either of these cases, if the grade is passing the student will receive credit for the course. A student who does not maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.5 will be placed on probation for one semester. If her GPA remains below 3.5, she will be asked to withdraw.

* A Program Planning Sheet must be submitted each November 1 for sophomores and juniors in the Program.
