Welcome to the School of Social Work

The social work major is a joint offering of the College of St. Catherine and the University of St. Thomas. It prepares you to serve others by working in hospitals, community centers, welfare departments, schools, women's shelters, nursing homes, mental health centers, group homes, chemical dependancy programs and industry. As a graduate, you will be trained to work with individuals, families, small groups, organizations and communities.
The curriculum is rooted in a philosophy of social responsibility and respect for individuals' rights. Through the teaching of social work knowledge and practice, the major will prepare you to actualize the Judeo-Christian concept of social caring, to demonstrate belief in the intrinsic value of all humankind, to serve those in need and to act with conviction in advancing the principle of social justice and human rights. Our comprehensive program integrates theory, research, fieldwork and person growth components.
