Annual Awards and Scholarships
PLEN Scholarship
The Center offers scholarships each fall for students to attend the Public Leadership Education Network (PLEN) seminars in Washington, D.C. The seminars are designed to give a behind-the-scenes look at the political process in Washington, particularly as it relates to women. Attendees meet with congressional members, non-profit leaders, and those involved in activism and advocacy. They are also able to network with other students interested in women and public policy issues. Complete a Scholarship Application Form and submit it to the AQM Center for Women for an opportunity to receive funding to attend the PLEN seminars.
LOTT Scholarship
The Center also sponsor students to attend the Minnesota-based Leaders of Today and Tomorrow (LOTT): Women Making A Difference in Public Policy Seminar in St. Paul. This also gives students an opportunity for a behind-the-scenes look at policy and how it affects women, but with a local focus. Complete a Scholarship Application Form and submit it to the AQM Center for Women for an opportunity to receive funding to attend the LOTT seminar.
Phillips Scholarship
The Phillips Family Foundation recognizes and rewards private college students, from a variety of disciplines, who strive to make life better for those with unmet needs. Applicants are challenged to think creatively and become community-service leaders. Students from Minnesota's 16 private colleges are invited to apply by submitting a proposed service project to benefit Minnesota communities. St. Catherine University will select a finalist to compete for one of six $15,250 Phillips Scholars Educational Awards. The Abigail Quigley McCarthy Center for Women is facilitating this process.
Research and Creative Work Award
This award recognizes excellence in research or creative work on women and women’s issues. Groups eligible for this award include undergraduate and graduate students, faculty and staff members, and alumnae/alumni. Recipients receive a monetary award and an opportunity to present their work at the Center for Women’s annual Awards Celebration. Submissions are due each spring.
Leadership Award
This award recognize student leaders who have exemplified the University's Leadership Statement in individually or collaborative groups endeavors. Nominations are due each spring.
Best Paper in Women’s Studies (WOST) Award
The Center coordinates the Best Paper in Women’s Studies Award. Declared majors or minors in Women’s Studies may submit scholarly work that addresses issues relevant to women.
Judith Gorman Krieger Scholarship
This $4,000 scholarship was established to provide financial support to someone who gives to others. The Krieger Scholarship recipient should be a giver, someone willing to share time with a sibling, an older family member, or people in the community. The scholarship is to be a gift to allow that student more opportunity to share time with and show compassion to others.
Mary Jane Young Scholarship
This scholarship provides up to $3,000 to re-entry and transfer student parents who demonstrate academic promise, perseverance, and a sense of vision.
