What is KateWay?
KateWay is a single login portal which gives the user access to the College of St. Catherine’s information and groups. KateWay is a secured community communication tool that allows users to get customized information according to your role, i.e. students, faculty, staff, and alumni. It allows for things such as online time entry and approvals, course registration, communication among the entire St. Kate's community, the ability to personalize your screen layout and much more. It is a portal through which the college communty will access school and work related information, and which will provide direct links to self-service functions in Banner. The link to the portal is http://kateway.stkate.edu.

Do I need to use a specific browser to use KateWay and Web Registration?
To log in and use the system effectively, you should be using one of the following Internet browsers

Internet Explorer 5.x (latest version) and 6.0 SP2 - (Do not confuse with MSN Explorer which is not compatible).

Timing out every 30 seconds?
If you get timed out very quickly while you are still in KateWay and actively using it, you are probably using an unsupported browser like MSN Premium. The MSN Explorer browser is not compatible with KateWay. Please use one of the browsers listed here.

How do I log into KateWay?
Once you are at the KateWay home page at http://kateway.stkate.edu, go to the Secure Access Login prompt, enter your User Name (your first and middle initials and last name or the user name that you use for Lotus Notes). Tab to or click on the Password field. Enter your birth date as your temporary password. This should be in the format of MMDDYY.
It is recomended that you change your password right away. Click on My Account in the upper left hand corner to change your password.It is suggested that you choose something easy to remember and required that you include an alpha-numeric combination.
As with logins and passwords, these numbers need to be carefully guarded to protect your identity and student records.
In order to preserve your privacy, it is vital that you logout of KateWay by clicking on the Logout button in the upper right corner. If you do not logout, and simply shut down your computer, you risk leaving your private information open to the next person who uses the computer.

Page cannot be displayed error or Can't register from work?
The 'Registration Tools' and 'Banner Self Service' functions require use of port 4459 for SSL connection to our Oracle database. If you receive a 'page cannot be displayed', 'access denied' or 'the connection has timed out' errors please contact your company's IT department and ask if port 4459 can be opened for SSL traffic.

Where do I find the name of my advisor?
- From the My Education Tab in KateWay
- Find the channel titled Academic Profile
- Your primary advisor is listed at the bottom of the channel.

Where can I find my class schedule?
You can view your class schedule by going to the My Education tab in Kateway and performing the following steps:
- Find the channel titled –Student Information
- Click on the My Schedule link
- Choose the appropriate term
- Click the SUBMIT button

How do I view my unofficial transcript on the web?
You can view your unofficial transcript on the My Education tab in Kateway.
- Find the channel titled - Student Information
- Click the Transcript link
- Choose your level – Graduate or Undergraduate
- Click the SUBMIT button

Where do I view my grades?
You can view both Mid Term and Final grades by accessing the My Education tab in KateWay and performing the following steps:
- Go to the channel titled Student Grades
- Choose the appropriate term
- Click the Submit button
- Choose Mid Term or Final

Where can I find course syllabi?
Course syllabi can be accessed by
- Going to the My Education tab
- Scrolling down the left side of the page
- Find the Course Resources channel
- Click on the Course Syllabi link

Personal layout and content customization
By default, KateWay provides great flexibility for you to customize the tabs and channels in your layout. In general the system allows you to:
- Add tabs
- Modify tabs to remove them from your layout, move tabs to a new position, rename them, or change the way the tab opens.
- Add columns to a tab.
- Modify columns to reorder or delete them.
- Add channels to new or existing tabs.
- Modify channels to move them to other tabs, reorder channels on a given tab, or delete channels from a tab. To modify tab and channel properties or to add new tabs and channels to the layout, you must Access the Cont4ent/Layout page by clicking on the Content/Layout link located at the top left of the home page.
- Campus and Personal Announcements
Campus and Personal Announcements allow communication with specific groups of KateWay users. These announcements have a start and stop date in the system and will appear until they expire. Campus announcements are global messages sent to all or most system users. Personal Announcements are sent based on information specific to your role on campus, or some other attribute. For example, an announcement can be sent to all history majors informing them of a lecture by a guest professor. Announcements can be configured to appear within their respective channel.

Registration Questions
Where do I register for classes?
You will register for courses on your My Education tab found in KateWay. Within the Student Information channel you will find a link to the Online Registration Schedule, where you will find registration Information. If you need instructions for registering online you can scroll to the middle of the My Education tab and find the channel titled NEED HELP?

When can I register for classes?
Student registration times are determined as follows:
Undergrad Semester and Weekend students:
- Your earned hours will determine your priority for registration (earned hours do NOT include in-progress hours) and classification (your classification DOES include in-progress hours).
Undergrad Associate Students:
- Your major and your earned hours will determine your priority for registration (earned hours do NOT include in-progress hours).
To find your registration time:
- Log into KateWay
- Go to My Education tab
- Go to the Registration Tools channel
- Click on My Registration Status
- Choose the appropriate term and click on the Submit button
- Add your total earned transfer credits to your total earned institutional credits
- Undergrad Semester and Weekend Students – Note also your classification for registration purposes
- Click on the My Education tab in the upper left-hand corner of the page to return the My Education tab
- Go to Registration Schedule in the Student Information channel on the My Education tab.
The dates for registration and drop/add are listed in the Academic Calendar, located on the Home tab of KateWay in the channel titled Schedules.

How do I audit a class?
To audit a course, students must obtain the instructors signature on a paper Drop/Add form and submit it to the Office of the Registrar. The option to choose Audit is not available via Web Registration.

How do I select S/U grading?
To select the S/U grading option, students should go to KateWay, My Education tab and Registrar’s Online Forms channel and complete and submit the Request for Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory Grading Option form. The option to choose S/U grading is not available via web registration.

How do I withdraw from a course?
- Withdrawal from a course is possible from the 2nd week of the term through the published last date to withdraw.
- The last date to withdraw for a specific Part of Term is listed on the Academic calendar, which can be found the Home tab in KateWay under the Schedules channel.
- Withdrawal from a course must be done in person in the Office of the Register by filling out a paper Drop/Add Form.

How do I withdraw from the College?
- WEC students must contact the WEC office at 651-690-6542 and speak with a WEC advisor.
- DAY students must contact the Day Academic Advising office at 651-690-6803 and speak with a day advisor.
- Associate students must contact their Program Director.

What are my student and course levels?
Courses fall into 2 course levels
Students fall under 5 different levels
Undergraduate Associate Students – Students who are working on a two year degree.
Undergraduate Semester Students – Baccalaureate students whose courses meet on the semester calendar.
Undergraduate Weekend Students – Baccalaureate students whose courses meet on the weekend calendar.
Graduate Weekend Students – Graduate Students whose courses meet on the weekend calendar.
Graduate Semester Students - Graduate Students whose courses meet on the semester calendar.
Attempting to register for courses outside your level will result in a registration error.
It may be helpful to use the table below when searching for courses, using the correct search criteria will help prevent registration errors which can be very frustrating.

What do I do if I want to take a course outside of my level?
Students are strongly encouraged to stay within their level when building their schedules. If you find that you want to register for a course outside of your level you can check the chart below to know who to contact for a registration override.

How do I know if I have holds that may prevent registration?
You can check for holds on the My Education tab in KateWay:
- Find the channel titled Student Information
- Click on the HOLD link
- If you have a hold – click on the link at the bottom of the page titled Resolving a Hold for information on resolving your hold.

I have a hold, what do I do now?
If you have a hold on your record, you will NOT be allowed to register or make adjustments to your schedule. If you have a hold, you must contact the office that placed the hold on your account. For some offices the removal of holds may be an overnight process. Please allow sufficient time for your hold to be removed before your registration period begins. After you have met the conditions of the hold, the hold will be removed, and you will be eligible to register.

What is a CRN?
CRN - (Course Reference Number) Each section in the course schedule has a unique number attached to it. It is the first column you see when you do a course search. This number can be entered into the add/drop worksheet in order to register for that section.

How do I search for a class?
Log into KateWay, go to the My Education Tab, find the Registration Tools channel and click on the Look up Classes. This page allows you to search the schedule on the web by subject, course number, title, part of term, schedule type, campus, instructor, course attribute, time/day. You can search for classes for an upcoming term by using the Look Up Classes to Add menu option.
Before you begin your search, it might be useful to review the chart located here to help you build your search in a way that will minimize your chance for Registration Errors.

Where do I find course enrollment information?
Capacity and enrollment information can be found on the Detailed Class Information screen. This screen can be accessed through KateWay in the Registration Tools Tab using the Look Up Classes link.
From either the Course Schedule or the Look Up Classes page:
Once you have submitted a search and have a list of courses – click on the title of the course and you will see the following information under the Registration Availability heading:

Cross List Seats*** - Review this row if the course is cross-listed. Capacity lists the total seats for all of the cross listed sections of the course. Actual lists the total number of students listed in all of the cross listed sections of the class. Remaining lists the total number of seats yet to be filled in all of the cross listed sections of the class.

Where do I find prerequisites and restrictions in web registration?
If there are any prerequisites and/or restrictions attached to a class or section, you can find them in the class schedule.
Once you have performed a class search in the Class Look Up screen in Banner Self Service:
- Click on the CRN(Course Reference Number) link – this takes you to the Class Schedule Listing page. Here you will find information regarding class times, meeting days and dates, and instructor. You may also find important information listed in the GREEN course comments.
- Click again on the course title link and the Detailed Class Information page displays. This page displays class availability information and any registration restrictions attached to this section.
- Click on the View Catalog Entry link to access the Catalog Entries page. Here you will find the catalog description which will include any prerequisites or corequisites that are required for this course.

Do I need an alternate PIN to register online?
All Associate Students, First Year and Sophomore Day students will be required to enter an alternate PIN number in order to access the web registration screen.
To receive your alternate PIN you will be required to set up an appointment with your advisor to review your Fall schedule. Once you have met with your advisor, she/he will give you your alternate PIN number.
You will need to see your advisor to obtain your alternate PIN. The Registrar’s office will not be able to give your alternate PIN number.

Can I be placed on a waitlist for a closed course?
No, waitlists are not being used in Banner. If the course that you want is closed, you can either choose another course or keep checking back in Look up Classes to see if a seat has opened up. If a seat opens up and you are eligible for the course you can add it online as long as the add/drop period is still available.

Can an Instructor or my Advisor register me for a class?
No! It is your responsibility to register via Web Registration once you have met with your Advisor. No one else can register you for your courses as long as the drop/add period is available.
Once the drop/add period is closed it is your responsibility to adjust your schedule in the Registrar’s Office.

I have received an override to register for a course, what do I do now.
- If you have requested an override, you can check the Registration Status page in Banner Self-Service to determine if the override has been added to your record. Once the override appears on your record, you can go ahead add the course as follows:
- Log into KateWay
- Go to the My Education tab
- Click on the Add/Drop Courses link in the Registration Tools channel
- Go to the bottom of the page and under the Add/Drop classes worksheet enter the five digit Course Reference Number (CRN) for the course(s),
- Use the tab key to move from one CRN space to another, enter numbers carefully and confirm your entries.
- Click on the Submit Changes button.
- You should see the course added to your schedule with a course status of “Web Registered”. You will not receive any additional confirmation.
- It is your responsibility to check your schedule to make sure that you registered for the correct courses.

How do I confirm my registration?
Check your registration carefully.
- From the My Education tab
- go to the Student Information channel in the middle of the page
- Click on the My Schedule link
- Choose the appropriate term and click on the Submit button
- Carefully review your schedule to confirm your course selections
- Course numbers (example: BIOL 2400, BIOL 2520, etc.)
- Section numbers (example: M01, D01, etc.)
- Instructor
- Number of credit hours
- Meeting days/times
! Note: It is your responsibility to ensure that you are registered for the courses you are attending. If you stop attending a class it is your responsibility to drop the class from your registration.
