Web Registration Details

Web registration is completed through a secured site and may be accessed directly through your Internet connection by accessing KateWay. You can access KateWay from any computer, both on or off campus. KateWay works best with Internet Explorer and FireFox, but does not work well with older versions of Netscape. KateWay Login to / Logout

Once you are at the KateWay Secure Access Login prompt, enter your User Name (the user name that you use for Lotus Notes). Tab to or click on the Password field and enter your birth date as your temporary password. This should be in the format of MMDDYY. Example: April 6, 1985 is entered as 040685

You will be prompted to change this password immediately. You must use an alpha-numeric combination. You will be required to create a security question and answer on the chance that you forget your new password and need help to reset it.

As with other logins and passwords, these numbers need to be carefully guarded to protect your identity and student record.

In order to preserve your privacy, it is vital that you log out of KateWay by clicking on the Logout button in the upper right hand corner. If you do not log out, you risk leaving your private information open to the next person who uses the computer.

Registering for (Adding) Courses

After you have chosen the courses that you want to register for and made note of the CRN for each course, you will use the Add and Drop Classes option to register.

  1. Enter the five-digit CRN for the course(s) you want to take in the spaces provided at the bottom of the Add and Drop Classes page. (Use the tab key to move from one CRN space to another.) A reversal or other error in the entry of the numbers will register you for the wrong course.
  2. If you want to clear all CRNs before you submit them, select Reset. This will clear all CRN fields and allow you to start over. If you want to change a single CRN, just type over the existing CRN.
  3. When you select Submit Changes, you will be registered for the courses for which you are eligible. You will see the course status "Web Registered" next to the course(s). You will NOT receive an additional confirmation.
  4. If you receive an error message, go to the bottom of the page and click on the link titled "Understanding Registration Errors". This page will help you figure out what the problem is.
  5. Confirm your schedule after you have entered all of your course selections using the Current Schedule option.
  6. While you are registering for courses you may receive a registration error. In some instances you can correct the error and still add the course. In other cases you may have to search for a new course or section or contact someone for an approval or override. For a complete explanation of the possible errors and the corrective actions, click here.

Registration Overrides/Approvals

Approvals – There are some courses that require the instructor or department chair’s approval and cannot be registered for using on-line registration. If you are interested in registering for one of these courses, you will need to obtain the proper form from the Registrar's Office, obtain the appropriate approval signatures and return the completed form to the Registrar's Office.

The courses that need special approvals are listed below:

  • Directed Study
  • Independent Study
  • Internship
  • CARL
  • Proficiency Exam

Overrides – An override allows you to register for a course for which you would not typically be eligible because the class is full, you haven’t met the prerequisite(s), you do not have the appropriate classification, you need to repeat the class, etc. If you want to request an override, first consult your academic advisor to see if your request is warranted. If your advisor agrees that it is, contact the chair of the department that offers the course to request the override.

Notes:
  • Approvals and overrides are only valid when online registration is open. They do not allow you to add the course after online registration has closed.
  • Approvals and overrides DO NOT register you for the class. It is YOUR responsibility to add the class after you have received the approval or override.

Dropping Courses

Log in to KateWay. Click on the My Education tab. Select Add or Drop Classes from the Registration Tools Channel. Access the options in the Action pull-down list. Select Web Drop and then Submit changes. The course will be dropped from your schedule. You will no longer see it in the Current Schedule Section of the Add/Drop worksheet.

NOTE: If you are dropping a section that is linked to another section (such as a lecture/lab combination) you must drop both sections at the same time.

Before dropping a course you may want to check the refund schedule to determine if you are eligible for a refund. The refund schedule can be found in KateWay on the My Finances tab.

You may not completely withdraw from CSC via the Web. If you want to withdraw from the College or take a leave of absence contact the appropriate College official as indicated below.

Undergraduate Associate students: Your Program Director
