Popular Wisdom Ways Summer Institute has remaining
spaces open for July 13-16 seminar

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- For those who like their spiritual experiences eclectic, listen up.

A few spots remain open for the annually sold-out event, Wisdom Ways Summer Spirituality Institute July 13 through 16 at the College of St. Catherine in St. Paul. This year's program is titled "Wisdom's Feast: Everything Is Holy Now." Space is limited, according to organizers, so interested individuals are encouraged to register as soon as possible.

The three-day institute offers an eclectic series of spirituality workshops presented by an unusual combination of speakers: a theologian who also is a master gardener, an anthropologist who also is a drummer in Haitian and Ghanaian traditions, an Ojibwe storyteller and musician, an ecologist, a naturalist, a horticulturist, a biologist, a sacred dance teacher, a labyrinth facilitator, and several authors.

The event begins with a kick-off concert by Peter Mayer, a Minnesota folksinger and songwriter with a background in theology and a national following, at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, July 13 at the Jeanne d'Arc Auditorium at St. Catherine's. In fact, the institute's theme this year is named after a Mayer song, "Everything is Holy Now."

"The institute offers an inter-disciplinary approach to spiritual topics," says Mary Kaye Medinger, director of Wisdom Ways, a resource center for spirituality sponsored by the College of St. Catherine and the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, which is coordinating the event.

Workshops will cover an array of subjects that blend nature and spirituality, such as the "holy web" of relationships with noted scholar Cletus Wessels, O.P.; finding "organic" theology through gardening; seasonal cuisine; mindfulness and drumming; and local ecology.

Participants may choose to attend a portion of or the entire conference or just the Mayer concert or Wessels event. In addition, participants may commute to the conference or stay on campus. For information, call Wisdom Ways at 651-690-8830.
