America Reads Sites

Community Work and Learning has relationships with many community organizations and schools. We currently work with seven sites specifically through the America Reads program.




Anishinabe Academy
Anishinabe Academy is a Native American magnet school for high 5 through eighth grade students. The objective of Anishinabe Academy is to integrate Native American culture and language into the Minneapolis Public School curriculum.

Neighborhood Learning Community
The Neighborhood Learning Community is a network of people and organizations working together to strenghten learning on the west side of St. Paul. The NLC improves learning of young people by co-creating a neighborhood culture that promotes and values learning for everyone; developing the neighborhood's capacity to create and sustain informal training; establishing visible, well-used pathways between west-side schools and the neighborhood; and building a campaign to influence the public agenda on learning.

Jane Addams School for Democracy
The Jane Addams School, located on the West Side of St. Paul, brings immigrant families, college students and other community members together to do public work and learning. It is a community-based initiative inspired by the vision of democracy, productive citizenship and popular education held by settlement house pioneers like Jane Addams. Longfellow Community School - Minneapolis
Longfellow Community School is a K-5 elementary school located in South Minneapolis. It houses about 300 students from around the neighborhood and celebrates a diversity that is mirrored in its students, staff and faculty. Longfellow actively involves parents and community members in various events and activities to ensure the success of every child.

Longfellow Humanities Magnet School Elementary - St. Paul
At Longfellow, a preK-6th grade school, students learn to understand and appreciate the diversity and richness of cultures through the investigation of ideas, stories and themes of a wide variety of peoples and times. Longfellow teachers use a humanities content framework that incorporates world cultures and the American experience.

Roosevelt High School Health Careers Program
Roosevelt, located in Minneapolis, serves students and families in many ways, including several "small learning communities," AVID, advanced placement courses, English language support and post-secondary options. Tutors work with students in the health careers program.

YWCA St. Paul
The St. Paul YWCA is an after-school tutor site for St. Paul public school children. The YWCA St. Paul is located in the historic and charming Cathedral Hill neighborhood of St. Paul, near the intersection of Selby and Western Avenues.
