"When I reflected on what the Global Search for Justice course is really about, I found that we were looking at justice issues around inequality, fairness, ethics, and how resources are allocated in a society. The real driver in the course is a call to action. Given these issues, what are we going to do? For me, service-learning was an opportunity to make that call real and to incorporate it into the course. Service-learning allows students to have the lived experience of understanding where someone is in society. "I truly believe and one of the things I'm trying to convey to students is that helping other people is the most fulfilling thing we can do in our lives. The community work piece is a way to recognize that you can't solve all the problems in the world, but you can do something. You need to make a decision on how you're going to use your talents and time to make a difference." More Profiles >>
