"I choose to tutor with America Reads because I enjoy working in a hands-on environment where not only do I make and impact in a child's life, but the work impacts my life as well. I like working with children who have innovative ideas and a creative spirit because their energy radiates into my life. I am an international relations major, and tutoring students from diverse ethnic backgrounds helps develop my intercultural communication skills necessary to fulfill my career plans. My most memorable moment was helping a young boy learn to draw shapes. At first he was very upset and did not want to participate with the group, but after some more practice and one-on-one work, he was eager to move onto the next shapes and even wanted to help clean up in the end. I was happy to see his growth and accomplishments in just that short half hour of time."
