"I believe in the power of embodied experience in learning and knowledge production. Students truly feel empowered when they find out that they are able to function in the ‘real world' and to effect change, even on a very small scale. Students end up loving community work and learning even though they start out with resistance.
"Well-after graduating, students who have done community work and learning are more likely keep in touch with me. I think the word "community" in community work and learning has a spill-over effect. There is a stronger sense of community in the classroom as well as at community work and learning sites. I have some really beautiful letters in which students talk about how their lives have been transformed by their community work and learning experience. What more can a teacher ask?"
