Community Leadership Program Position: Facilitator/coordinator for the Hmong Circle, Jane Addams School for Democracy

"The Jane Addams School for Democracy is built on the motto that “everyone is a teacher and a learner” which means that there is no one at Jane Addams who is specifically the teacher or the learner. Everyone is capable of teaching and learning something new every night at Jane Addams. One of the wonderful components that I love about Jane Addams is that it has such a culturally diverse environment. This allows all the participants to experience more than just the academic portion if the community, but also the variety of life perspectives that each of us offer at Jane Addams. The most wonderful statement I’ve heard from cultural exchange discussions is that the participants from all of the different circles (East African, Hmong, Spanish, teen and children) are very interested in each other’s opinions and have gradually formed friendships through the Jane Addams School for Democracy."
