McGlynn Computer and Technology Center Policies

- Currently enrolled students are eligible for a computer account. Students are asked to show proof of registration. Faculty and staff accounts are for current CSC employees only.
- Personal Computer Equipment owned by students that is connected to the College of St. Catherine network must comply with Computing Services policies for security. Updating of operating system software and College supplied anti-virus software is the responsibility of the student. Repair of hardware and software, particularly, virus and spyware problems is the responsibility of the student.
- Installation of personal wireless hubs, switches and routers (wireless access points) is prohibited.
- Users must not give others access to their own account.
- Users may create, change or delete files in their own computer accounts only, unless specifically authorized.
- Socially inappropriate words must not be used for program names, file names, document names or in electronic mail (e-mail).
- Computer game playing is not allowed when it keeps others from accessing the computer for academic work.
- Downloading and storage of music, picture and video files to The College of St. Catherine Network, in excess of personal disk storage limits is prohibited. Storage of music, picture and video files unrelated to syllabus prescribed academic coursework on network drives is prohibited.
- Disk Space allocations are defined at the McGlynn Computing and Technology Center home page.
- Users must not make unauthorized copies of copyrighted software, documentation or support materials.
- To incorporate copyrighted materials into computer-related courseware, software or associated materials, users must obtain proof of release from the copyright holder prior to its use.
- CSC has the right to access and use any software and associated materials that are developed using CSC’s computing services. For more information about CSC’s copyright and ownership policy, call Computing Services at (651) 690-6402.
- Users must not abuse computing services or resources. (See definition below.*)
- Users are required to reimburse CSC for damage to equipment, software, documentation, data, files or facilities as a result of negligence or an intentional act.
- Users must reimburse CSC for expenses associated with claims brought against CSC as a result of abuse or negligent use of Computing Services or copyright laws.
- The director of information systems and technology acts as administrator of CSC computing policies.
- Users have the right to appeal decisions made by the director through CSC appeal procedures.
- Students suspected of violating the Computer Center Policy also may be in violation of the Code of Conduct as stated in LeGuide. Students suspected of the stated violations will be referred to the formal redress process and if found responsible, subject to the college sanctions as outlined in LeGuide.
* Theft or other abuse of computer resources, includes but is not limited to:
- Unauthorized entry into a file to use, read or change the contents, or for any other purpose.
- Unauthorized transfer of another user’s file.
- Use of another individual’s identification and password not authorized by Computing Services.
- Use of computer facilities to interfere with the work of another student, faculty member or college official.
- Use of computer facilities to copy, save or send obscene or abusive messages.
- Use of computer facilities to interfere with normal operations of the college’s computer systems.
- Unauthorized installation of software on computer lab or residence hall cluster computers.
- Sending excessive e-mail messages, locally or over the network, including chain letters, advertisements and solicitations.
