MIPS Programs

MIPS strengthens community among students of color and international students through the following programs:

MIPS Gatherings
MIPS hosts gatherings throughout the school year to welcome students and build a stronger community.

Friendship Families
This program pairs international students with American families.

Peer Mentoring
Students of color work as Peer Mentors for first-year students.

Step by Step Institute
Step by Step is a preparation summer program that prepares women of color who have delayed university for a successful transition into St. Kate's.

Student Organizations
MIPS provides time, space, and resources to students so that they can create a nurturing, expressive, and supporting environment among themselves and with the greater St. Kate's community.

MIPS also reaches out to the larger community. MIPS informs high school women of color about university in general and St. Kate's specifically through the following programs:

First Step Summer Institute
The First Step university immersion program helps to prepare young women of color for university. It is a one week residential program that is offered twice throughout the summer. It offers young women of color an opportunity to get a taste of university life, personal development, social activities, and university preparation.

Shadow Days
MIPS student organization members volunteer to have high school women of color shadow them to experience "a day in the life" of a St. Kate's student.

Recruitment and Retention Videos
MIPS video projects are a culturally specific in-depth look into the St. Kate's university experience among Hmong, African immigrant, and Latina students.
