January 1, 2009 - Congratulations to Dr. Corjena Cheung, Assistant Professor in Nursing, Dr. Carol Geisler, Assistant Professor in Master of Arts in Holistic Health Studies and Dr. Mari Ann Graham, Associate Professor in the School of Social Work, who have been awarded $10,000 for their interdisciplinary project, “Use of Complementary/Integrative Therapies (C/IT) in Community Dwelling Older Women with Arthritis.” The purpose of this study is to explore the experience of community-dwelling older women using C/IT to manage arthritis. There has been little research on this topic, particularly the types of C/IT used, the factors that influence decisions to use C/IT, and the depth and breadth of experiences of those using C/IT. This study aims to uncover whether older women have accurate information about the benefits and risks associated with their choice of C/IT and will provide health care professionals with additional information regarding C/IT use by their patients.
