Body Satisfaction

May 15, 2008 - Congratulations to Dr. Lynda Szymanski, Associate Professor of Psychology, Dr. John Pellegrini, Associate Professor of Biology and student research assistants Lauren Brin and Carol Goulet, who have been awarded a $37,196 3M Large Grant for their research, "The Association Between Body Satisfaction and Physiological Responses to Media Images of Extremely Thin Women." The team will investigate physiological and psychological reactions of two groups of women, those with high body satisfaction and those with high body dissatisfaction, to the presentation of thin media images. The objectives of this study are to determine if women who are satisfied with their bodies have similar physiological and psychological reactions to the presentations of images as those who are dissatisfied and to determine if the phsyiological reactions of both groups correspond with their self-reports.
