January 8, 2008 - Assistant Professor of Sociology Hui Niu Wilcox, Ph.D., has been awarded the 2008-09 Carol Easley Denny Award for her proposed project, "Embodied Ways of Knowing, Liberal Arts Education and Social Justice: Pedagogical Research and Residency of Ananya Dance Theatre." Wilcox plans to evaluate St. Kate's core curriculum and assess how performance art residencies affect teaching and learning. The project will also include a residency by Ananya Dance Theatre, a racially and age diverse dance company founded in New York City and now based in Minneapolis that engages in justice work through performance. A member of Ananya Dance Theatre, Dr. Wilcox believes her involvement informs her teaching on race/ethnicty, gender and culture.
