Engaging Abusive Men in Domestic Abuse Treatment and its Impact on Outcome
January 1, 2009 - Congratulations to Dr. Michael Chovanec, Associate Professor in the School of Social Work, who has been awarded $10,000 for “Engaging Abusive Men in Domestic Abuse Treatment and its Impact on Outcome: A Mixed-method Exploration.” Studies indicate that a high percentage of men engaged in treatment for domestic abuse drop out of treatment programs and are likely to continue abusive behavior. Dr. Chovanec’s study examines how best to engage abusive men in the change process, focusing on the perspectives of both men engaged in treatment programs and group facilitators of such programs. Dr. Chovanec will develop a theory on how abusive men change their behavior and generate empirically-based group treatment interventions.
