January 1, 2009 - Congratulations to Dr. Roberta Hunt, Associate Professor in Nursing, who has been awarded $10,000 for “Home Visiting Program for Homeless Families Living in Transitional Housing.” This action research evaluates the efficacy of a home visiting program that uses a service learning model to provide nursing care to families living in transitional housing. Preliminary studies suggest that home visits improve health outcomes for high-risk families. Dr. Hunt also believes that a home visiting program provides students with increased opportunities to provide hands on care while enhancing their understanding of social justice. Dr. Hunt will test this hypothesis by identifying, developing and utilizing tools to comprehensively evaluate the current program. This pilot study will enable Dr. Hunt to improve student learning and family outcomes within the existing home visiting program.
