November 26, 2007 - Congratulations to St. Kate’s Endowed Professor in the Sciences, Cindy Norton, Ph.D., and Biology-Women's Studies Professor Debbie Wygal, who have received $53,800 from the Associated Colleges of the Twin Cities (ACTC) Collaborative Grant Program to fund a national three-day conference on the intersections of science, gender, race and class. The conference will take place at the College of St. Catherine June 16-18, 2008.
Representatives of St. Kate’s, Augsburg College, Hamline University, Macalester College and the University of St. Thomas collaborated on the grant and students from each institution will be involved in the planning and implementation of the conference.
“Inclusive Science: Articulating Theory, Practice, and Action," will bring together scholars to accomplish three goals: critiquing science from multiple perspectives; exploring pedagogies that engage students in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM); and transforming theory into action-- changing the way we do, learn and teach about science. The conference is expected to draw nearly 200 participants as well as acclaimed national and regional speakers who will contribute to conversations around inclusion in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) fields
.
These has been a great deal of scholarly activity in these areas and the conference will be an exciting opportunity to exchange and assess information and plan future initiatives.
