April, 27, 2007 - The Associated Colleges of the Twin Cities (ACTC) has awarded $73,500 for Leaders for Literacy, a planning grant focused on language literacy needs for student populations. This collaboration with other ACTC schools will support a faculty and staff leadership team that will examine best practices in education to be applied to non-native speakers of the English language. This work will include research, consultation, engagement with community partners, faculty study groups, creative thinking, and visioning. A case statement will be developed recommending programmatic approaches that through our collaborative efforts will assure successful learning outcomes for students through improvement of language literacy.
Associate Dean for Integrated Learning, Marla Hanley, will serve as the Principal Investigator on this grant with assistance from Associate Professor of English Susan Bosher and Brinsley Davis in the Centers of Excellence. Congratulations to Margaret McLaughlin, Dean of Health Professions and Two-Year Programs at the College of St. Catherine, for spearheading this effort.
