Dr. Marcia Byrd, Associate Professor of Nursing, has been named the Sister Anne Joachim Moore Fellow for 2007 to 2010. The fellowship is funded through a gift to the College in honor of Sr. Anne Joachim Moore, the founder of St. Mary’s Junior College, now the Minneapolis Campus of the College of St. Catherine. The fellowship annually supports the recipient with one-half of FTE release (i.e. 3 course loads) from teaching for scholarship and leadership with additional funds available for research expenses, speakers and library acquisitions

The Sister Anne Joachim Moore Fellow is a senior faculty member who will create a higher profile for the Department of Nursing, attracting the highest caliber of faculty, visiting practitioners and students to the College. The Fellow is expected to:
- Provide leadership, mentor faculty, pursue innovative programming, and invigorate the Department of Nursing in a way that will create an even more dynamic learning environment for nursing students. This individual will be a visionary able to develop and strengthen relations among the College, health care providers and community-based organizations.
- Engage in scholarship and writing that result in publication and the presentation of at least one public lecture per year to the college community related to her scholarship. Areas of scholarship that are salient to the discipline and profession of nursing include the Scholarship of Discovery, the Scholarship of Teaching, the Scholarship of Practice, and the Scholarship of Integration
As a Moore Fellow, Dr. Byrd plans to explore ancient wisdom traditions and incorporate these healing modalities within an integrative model of health. Marcia's research will focus on the role of racial consciousness in provider bias and health disparities. Additionally, she plans to study the use of stories and narrative pedagogy to more fully operationalize the inclusivity thread within the healthcare curriculum.
