Sept 22, 2006 - The National Science Foundation (NSF) has awarded the College of St. Catherine a $499,375 grant for "Enhancing Recruitment and Retention for Women in Science and Engineering." Congratulations to Dr. Lynne Gildensoph, Dr. Patricia Dunlop and Yvonne Ng for their wonderful work in writing the proposal. The competition for this grant was strong, with only a 29% funding rate.
This grant will provide over $430,000 worth of scholarships over the next 5 years for students majoring in the disciplines of biology, chemistry, math, computer science, physics and engineering. In addition, student support services, including but not limited to the Offices of Career Development and the O'Neill Center, will underpin the scholarship awards and the Office of Admission will play a vital role in working with the grant leadership team to develop and communicate appropriate STEM information to high schools, further supporting their recruiting efforts.
A special thank you goes out to all who contributed to this effort in the planning stages, including Carol Beste, Kimberly Betz, Marlene Mohs, Regina Hickman, Lizette Bartholdi, Ellen Richter-Norgel, Donna Hauer, Susan Goetz, Beth Stevens, Pahoua Yang, Scott Pakudaitis and the Alumnae Office.
Congratulations to the 2007 NSF S-STEM Scholars!
