Fundraising
Fundraising is an excellent way for your chartered club or organization to earn necessary funds to support your events, conferences, or to purchase supplies/equipment for your group. Chartered clubs and organizations may sponsor fundrasing activities only after contacting and receiving approval from the Student Center and Activities office. All fundraising activities must be consistent with the mission of St. Catherine University and the chartered club/organization's purpose and comply with all local, state, and Federal laws.
St. Catherine University recognizes the need of student organizations to fundraise for projects not funded through the Senate allocation process. The guidelines and policies regarding fundraising are intended to help organizations be successful in their fundraising efforts by providing a system within which to work and to establish a relationship with the University's Office of Development and Student Center and Activities.
Please read the guidelines and learn more about fundraising by reading the Student Fundraising Registration Form.
Please note: contributions to clubs and organizations are not tax deductible. If your club or organization receives a monetary gift made to your group, all clubs and organizations are expected to write a note of thanks for all gifts received. Clubs and organizations are required to include the following language into their note of thanks:
“Please be aware that the (name of the organization) does not have a 501 (c) (3) status under the Internal Revenue Code. Consequently, gifts to the (name of the organization) do not qualify for charitable tax deductions.”
Copies of this note need to be sent to your Advisor, the Student Center and Activities Office, and to the Development Office.
Fundraising Ideas:
- Candy grams such as suckers or chocolate attached to a note can be sent to campus mailboxes. Make up any reason for sending special notes and treats such as “I love my roommate week.”
- Finals Week Care Packages. Campus mail goodie bags with motivational quotes, study tips, healthy treats, and candy.
- Flower sales. Carnations are cheap and last.
- Something-A-Thon. Have a campus walk-a-thon, jump rope-a-thon. Have people give donations and find people to sponsor your “thon.”
- Recycle for Profit. Offer to pick up student’s recycling or set up an Atrium Table to collect recycling.
- Cards. Make and sell greeting cards. Make them for the various holidays and include stamped envelopes.
- Bake Sale. Make baked goods and sell them. Make sure that all of your baked items are individually wrapped and properly labeled.
