Dr. Arturo Sesma, Jr.
BS, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
PhD, Institute of Child Development, University of Minnesota
Dr. Sesma teaches: General Psychology, Lifespan Developmental Psychology, and Research Methods in Psychology.
In each of my classes, I focus on 3 broad goals:
To engage students via a variety of learning strategies and classroom techniques that also work to create an inviting atmosphere in which students feel comfortable voicing their opinions and perspectives;
To cultivate critical thinking and a healthy skepticism for the scientific enterprise;
To model a genuine enthusiasm and interest in psychology in general, and developmental psychology specifically, in order to help students discover how course content is applicable across multiple contexts and circumstances as well as how this information is meaningful in students' lives.
Mostly, though, I love telling stories, and the field of psychology is replete with colorful individuals, controversy, and really interesting findings. What's not to love about psychology?
Dr. Sesma's favorite quote: Eschew meretricious and obfuscating sesquipedalianism. -Hans Eysenck. Very very long words by which to live.
