I'm Luke Pingel, Assistant Professor of English in the Department of Liberal Arts and Sciences. I have been teaching at St. Kate's since January 2009. While I primarily teach courses in Composition and Creative Writing, I have also taught a variety of classes in literature, oral communications, and humanities. I received my B.A. (2002) and my M.A. (2004) in English from the University of Northern Iowa. After teaching at the collegiate level for a couple of years, I entered the University of Minnesota's Creative Writing Program, where I received a Masters of Fine Arts degree in 2009. Two of my poetry chapbooks have been published: The Storm That Killed the Tree was released from Pudding House Press in 2008, and All Types of Breath Included was published by Further Adventures Press in 2009. Other creative work has appeared in various journals, including The Green Hills Literary Lantern, Ellipsis, and The William and Mary Review.
Whether teaching creative or critical writing, I am endlessly committed to the process of creation-- from the initial spark of an idea, into the development of expressive articulation. I believe wholeheartedly that good writing is based around extensive reading and a dedication to critical understanding.
