Mary Lou is a graduate of the Occupational Therapy Program at the University of Kansas (1971). She also received her Master of Science in Special Education from the University of Kansas (1974).
Mary Lou has practiced as an occupational therapist in a number of pediatric settings including NICU, in-patient rehabilitation, out-patient clinics, home-based services, and in school programs for special needs children from infancy to young adulthood. Her primary interests have related to teaching, both in clinical and academic settings. She has provided clinical training to numerous students, including both occupational therapy as well as other health professions. She has taught in occupational therapy programs at the University of Puget Sound, Tacoma, WA; Creighton University, Omaha, NE; and St. Catherine's, St. Paul, MN, where she has been on the faculty since 1991.
Primary areas of professional interest include curriculum, occupational science, pediatrics, and professional engagement. She has held a number of leadership positions in the OT Program at St. Catherine's including Director of Curriculum, Program Director of Occupational Science, Interim Department Chair, Department Chair, and Interim MAOT Program Director.
