Andrea Jane Lee, IHM
10th President of the College of St. Catherine
Andrea Lee, IHM is president of the College of St. Catherine, the largest college for women in the United States. A multifaceted institution, St. Catherine’s serves over 5,200 students in undergraduate and graduate programs on campuses in St. Paul and Minneapolis, Minn. Lee has led the College to achieve record enrollments in each year of her presidency as well as attain marked increases in financial and plant assets, visibility, and community and global engagement. Under her leadership, St. Catherine’s recently established a School of Health to extend its reach and influence as a premier educator preparing healthcare professionals for a rapidly changing healthcare system.
Fomerly, Lee was interim president, executive vice president and chief financial officer of Marygrove College in Detroit. She holds a Master's and Ph.D. in educational administration from the Pennsylvania State University, where she received the Outstanding Alumna Award. She also holds degrees in music, elementary education and Italian language and literature.
Lee’s many civic activities include serving on not-for-profit boards in Minnesota, Michigan and nationally. Currently, she serves as board member and officer of the Association of Catholic Colleges and Universities, in Washington, D.C.; board member of both the Catholic Community Foundation and the Minnesota Private College Council in St. Paul, Minn.; and member of the Board of Stewardship Trustees of Catholic Health Initiatives headquartered in Denver, Colorado. Formerly, Lee served as board member and national chairperson for the Religious Network for Equality for Women, where she was active in the Washington legislative arena advocating for economic justice for women. She served as financial co-chair of the mayoral transition team for Dennis Archer in Detroit, and as principal financial reviewer for the $100 million Detroit Empowerment Zone projects. She was founding president of a non-profit low-income senior housing corporation in Detroit and a member of St. Paul, Minn. Mayor Chris Coleman’s Blue Ribbon Task Force on budget priorities.
An accomplished media artist and liturgical musician, playing flute and piano, Sister Andrea is a member of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Monroe, Michigan, and the adoptive mother of a son from Haiti.
