Frequently Asked Questions for Student-Parents

Have questions about living on campus as a student and a parent? You'll find answers to many common questions here. Also, please review the policies and procedures for student-parent housing.

Am I guaranteed housing as a student-parent?

The student-parent apartments on campus are in high demand. There is typically a waiting list for student-parent housing.

How long is the waiting list?

On average, there are usually between 15-20 students on the waiting list at any given time. The number of students on the waiting list tends to be higher in the spring and summer months. For more accurate information, contact Residence Life at (651) 690-6617.

How do I apply?

In order to apply you must be accepted to St. Catherine University and have a university ID number. You must also have your $100 tuition deposit on file with the University. Once a space has been reserved for you, a $250 housing advance will be collected to reserve the space. You do NOT need to provide the $250 housing advance to be placed on the waiting list.

Parents must provide proof to our office that all children living on campus are up to date on all immunizations. This information does not need to be provided to our office until you actually receive an apartment on campus.

What if I want to take my name off of the waiting list?

Your name can be removed from the waiting list at any time. You simply need to contact Residence Life and we will remove your listing.

Can I receive a subsidy for the cost of on-campus housing?

At the present time, the on-campus housing provided by St. Catherine University is not part of any housing subsidy program. We are not affiliated with Section 8 Housing.

Can men live on campus?

Married couples are welcome to live on campus. Residents must provide a copy of their marriage certificate.

Are pets allowed on campus?

We currently do not allow pets on campus. Fish, however, are welcome.

Are utilities included in the rent?

The cost of the apartments is inclusive of electricity, heat, water, local phone service, voicemail, Internet access and basic cable. Rent is billed per semester to your student account.

Where is student-parent housing located?

Family housing is located in Alberta Apartments on the St. Paul campus.

Are the apartments furnished?

Yes. One-bedroom apartments are furnished with two twin beds (bunkable), two dressers, one desk, a dining room table and chairs, a couch and an arm chair. Two-bedroom apartments are furnished with four twin beds (bunkable), four dressers, one desk, a dining room table and chairs, a couch, and an arm chair.

Is there storage for furniture I don’t want?

The university can store beds and/or dressers for student parents who prefer to bring their own bedroom furniture. Due to limited storage, we can store only university-owned furniture.
