Year 2: Development of a Research Agenda
What Follows Why the Difference?
Teachers with keen interest in building new teaching skills may stay engaged with the project into the 2006-2007 year. A committee of program staff, College of St. Catherine faculty, visiting professors, evaluator, and ten teachers from ten school districts will meet again four times following the conference to develop a research agenda to refine and substantiate best practices. The meetings of the second year will be a fabulous opportunity to work alongside experts in STEM teaching.
In addition, several teachers, or teams of teachers, will engage in action research about a best practice to help refine the research questions. Action research is a process of research design, data collection, and data analysis for evaluating the effectiveness of a teaching technique. Teachers interested in a master's degree would find this experience very beneficial.
Teachers can either earn graduate credit associated with this committee or be paid for their participation. The first meeting will be on Thursday, June 29, but teachers are still welcome to join the group at the beginning of the school year. The other three meetings will take place once a quarter in fall, 2006, winter, 2007, and spring, 2007. The grant also provides funds for substitute teachers. The program may also include some events which will be open to more teachers interested in single seminars. They will be announced on this web site and by e-mail to attendees as well as teachers of science, technology, engineering, and math in Minnesota. The grant also provides funds for substitute teachers.
