    ThemeWorkshopDescriptionPresenter Recommended Grade
    Information TechnologyAnimation with a Twist:

    Choose your favorite Manga character to fly in an imaginary land.
    Learn how to use photography and iMovie to produce a short animation. Experience first-hand how technology can communicate and bring issues into an open forum.Asian Media Access All sessions: 6th – 8th
    Information TechnologyTake Apart a ComputerExplore what makes a computer work. Take a part and build a computer to understand how it works. The College of St. Catherine All sessions:6th -8th
    EngineeringCrash Safety Design Team Competition!

    Design a Lego car that can withstand force
    Learn engineering project design skills as you build a Lego car designed to carry a raw egg! The workshop is designed to teach teamwork and group design experience as well as consider budgetary constraints and process development.Society of Women EngineersAll sessions:4th – 8th
    MathShaping Our Lives Scavenger Hunt: Find the shapes that surround us and win a prize.Search for examples of two and three-dimensional geometric shapes as you tour in teams around Coeur de Catherine and nearby campus buildings. You’ll see how geometric shapes are all around us and learn about unfamiliar shapes. The College of St. CatherineAll sessions: 4th – 6th
    MathTopology Experiments with Paper and ScissorsExplore what happens to strips of paper and other paper shapes when they are linked and cut. Predict what will happen before making any cuts, and see if the predictions are correct. Through these activities we will make some observations about the “shape” or topology of space. We will also create a necklace made from a Moebius band. The College of St. Catherine StudentsAll sessions: 6th – 8th
    Food ScienceScience and Baking: Chemistry Makes the Cookie CrumbleDiscover the chemistry of cookie ingredients by testing variations on a cookie recipe. Find out how the ingredients change the taste and texture of cookies when you get to eat your results!Merlin DevelopmentInc.All sessions: 4th – 8th
    ChemistryAveda-Science of Lipstick and Perfume:

    Learn how to make lipstick and your own perfume
    Watch a demonstration of the process of making lipstick in the Aveda lab. Learn about the ingredients used and other laboratory jobs in the personal care product industry. Then create your own perfume from certified organic essential oils. AvedaAll sessions:6th - 8th
    ChemistryT-Shirt ChromatographyCreate your own colorful T-shirt design while learning about chromatography. Chromatography is a technique for separating, detecting, and purifying components of a mixture. It is used in many scientific fields including environmental studies, medical and biological research, and crime lab studies. The College of St. CatherineSession 1: 4th – 5th; Sessions 2 & 3: 6th – 8th.
    Physics Physics of FoodTwo great things- Physics and Food! Did you know how much science is involved in the everyday things we use in the kitchen? Come see all the wacky things that physics can describe related to food and kitchen equipment! The College of St. CatherineAll sessions: 4th - 8th
    Environmental BiologyRiver Restoration Residency: How do we remove a dam from a large river?What is the best way to remove a dam from a river? Teams will work with models of a river in the western U.S. and experiment with dam removal. Each group will collect data on movement of water and sediment before, during, and after dam removal to help us make our decision. Scientists use models just like ours to help them develop methods for removing dams.The College of St. CatherineSessions 1 & 3: 6th - 8th ;
    Session 2: 4th – 5th
    AgricultureScience Solves the Mystery: C.S.I. Cargill Science InvestigatorsA “crime” has been committed! Come help the Cargill Science Investigators (CSI) study the evidence and solve the mystery. We will use several chemistry tests to analyze with the evidence the suspect left behind. We will separate mixtures using a technique called chromatography and study tiny particles using a microscope.Cargill, Inc.All sessions: 6th – 8th
    DesignMoving Without Motors: Build vehicles and see how fast and far you can make them move!Girls will design rubber band powered boats, balloon powered cars and straw rockets using every day materials. Girls will get to test and modify their machines to maximize performance. Girls will also learn basic physics principles including aerodynamics, friction, and gravity.Science Museum of Minnesota – Youth Science CenterAll sessions: 4th - 8th
