Sr. Mary Thompson is a graduate of the College of St. Catherine who went on to teach in and lead the St. Kate's chemistry department for 39 years. This lecture series was established to continue her tradition of excellence by bringing prominent women in the chemical sciences to campus.
Dr. Geraldine Richmond is the Richard M. and Patricia H. Noyes Professor of Chemistry at the University of Oregon. Dr. Richmond has won a Guggenheim Fellowship, the American Chemical Society Award for Encouraging Women in the Chemical Sciences, a 1997 Presidential Award for Excellence in Science and Engineering Mentoring, and a Research Creativity Award from the National Science Foundation. The Chemistry Seminar will address her work in Physical and Environmental Chemistry and her interest in water issues. The evening lecture will address ways to overcome the challenges facing women who pursue careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM).
The 2007 speaker was Dr. Azadeh Tabazadeh, a physical chemist who has applied her knowledge to atmospheric science, which led to the landmark 1996 ban on chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs). More information...
