Science Saturday for Middle School Girls - March 10
Posted on Monday, January 29, 2007

Science Saturday is a one-day event for middle school girls—and their parents, teachers, Girl Scout leaders and other youth educators—to explore the fun of science and math and participate in hands-on activities. This year’s event will be held on Saturday, March 10, 8:30 a.m.–3 p.m. on the St. Paul campus of the College of St. Catherine. Registration deadline: Feb. 26.

During middle school years, students are not ready to choose their careers, but they begin to exclude career options. Science Saturday is intended to reinforce girls’ interests in science and math so that they don’t opt out of these fields prematurely.

Highlights include:

  • 200 girls explore science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) through hands-on interactive workshops led by College of St. Catherine faculty and students and professionals in STEM fields.
  • Approximately 60 adults will attend a presentation and panel discussion on how to engage girls in STEM. They will also get to do some hands-on science and math activities.
  • Over 25 College of St. Catherine students serve as role models for the girls and assist in the activities.

Cost
$5 for girls
$7.50 for adults
