Ecology Meets Theology with Brazilian Theologian Lina Boff – Oct. 17

Dr. Lina Boff, OSM, dean and professor of systematic theology at the Pontifical Catholic University in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, will speak on, “Solidarity and Communion in a Globalized World,” on Tuesday, Oct. 17, 7 p.m., in the Presentation of Our Lady Chapel (enter through Carondelet Center, 1890 Randolph Avenue. Dr. Boff’s visit is presented by Wisdom Ways Spirituality Center and cosponsored by the St. Kate's Theology Department and the Center of Excellence for Women and Spirituality.

Drawing on her experience as a theologian, educator, author, missionary and resource person in Brazil, Dr. Boff will share what solidarity means to her. She will address why solidarity is needed and how people of faith can live it, as one body, in a globalized world that has urgent social, environmental, and economic issues to address such as poverty, the destruction of the Amazon rainforest, and global warming. Dr. Boff's presentation will allow time for questions and answers.
A longtime teacher and coordinator of catechetical programs in the favelas, prolific author and board member of various journals, Dr. Boff gives workshops to base Christian communities within Brazil and internationally. She is a member of a remarkable family that includes her brothers, theologians Leonardo Boff and Clodovis Boff.
During her first-ever speaking tour in the United States, Dr. Boff’s venues will include the Chicago Theological Union, Viterbo University, (LaCrosse), Creighton University (Omaha) and the Graduate Theological Union (Berkeley). Wisdom Ways is honored to present her two Twin Cities events, in collaboration with other sponsoring institutions.
Dr. Boff’s visit is presented by Wisdom Ways Spirituality Center and cosponsored by the St. Catherine's Theology Department and the Center of Excellence for Women and Spirituality. Dr. Boff presents in Portuguese. Skilled translators will assist non-Portuguese speaking participants.
